Compare and contrast blogs and wikis. Comment on the importance of convergence in today's networked world. How can blogs be used for collaboration? Can you think of a new use for a wiki that has not been done yet?
Blogs and Wikis are two very interesting and important tools of communication. Both of these important tools are used to share information with the public. Blogs are controlled by the main blogger and Wikis, on the other hand, can be controlled by anyone. Blogs and Wikis are both available to anyone in the world. Wiki is defined as "The simplest online database that could possibly work." Wiki, the Hawaiian word for quick, wikis are essentially web pages that anyone- or at least anyone with permission- can create or edit. Blogs are Wikis that are both free to use and cut the cost of publishing and sharing information.
In today's time when everyone is very active on social media websites and news spreads very fast because of the all mass media technologies that we have today. A great example is "Yahoo acquires Tumblr, Promises 'Not to Screw it up" which was shared by about 4.6 people on Facebook. This article shows how important Yahoo thinks a popular microblogging service is that it paid $1.1 Billion dollars for it.
Wiki can be used by businesses to connect with there customers, where customers can rate the business on how they are performing, things that can be changed to make that specific business better.
