Blog : Wifi So Far

I have been getting used to wiki by editing a few pages, getting used to the process, and getting familiar with how wiki works. I have been editing the YouTube page making a few changes, fixing things that seem out of place and making the YouTube wiki page look nice overall. I have no created a page yet but I have been editing the YouTube wiki page, so far I have added two paragraphs about the history of Youtube, I have added a paragraph about famous YouTubers. I have added about two images to the wifi page, I have also added two references. I am still going make a few changes and keep on editing and add two more paragraphs to the YouTube wiki page.

 File sharing is the process of distributing or providing access to digital media, such as computer programs, multimedia, documents, or electronic books. File sharing maybe be achieved in a number of ways. P2P file sharing is also known as peer-to-peer sharing, with P2P sharing people can exchange all kinds of music, videos, and different kinds of media. "Bram Cohen is the creator of BitTorrent, one of the most successful peer-to-peer programs ever. BitTorrent lets users quickly upload and download enormous amounts of data, files that are hundreds or thousands of times bigger than a single MP3. " BitTorrent is a great example of P2P sharing.

Privacy

 Privacy and confidentiality are both very important topics when it comes to today's world especially when everything is moving more towards online stores and almost everything we do involves something that gets done online. Privacy and confidentiality both play a very important role when comes to new media, since new media involves a lot of things are done online, which makes it more prone to breaches and access to our personal information and a whole lot of stuff that we don't want to provide to the public but we trust these new media sites to keep that information safe. A great example is how we would expect our bank to keep our money safe but these breaches could even take place there, "For consumers, this technology differs in important ways from what is widely used in the United States today. The standard credit and debit cards we use now have a magnetic stripe containing the customer's information. When first introduced, that stripe was an innovation. But in today's world, more is needed," Mulligan wrote. "The latest 'smart cards' have tiny microprocessor chips that encrypt the personal data shared with the sales terminals used by merchants. Why is such a change important? Even if a thief manages to steal a smart card number, it's useless without the chip."

Advice

 If hired by Baruch College to use new media to improve the college - the first suggestion that would make is that the college needs to spread the word about the different new media course's that Baruch offers. The second suggestion I would make is that Baruch should use more social media websites to create a page just for the new media department and get people informed, offer them something for following those pages, and even a greater incentive if they can share those pages to friends and family. The new media department could get involved, to create some kind of completion where the requirement to be considered for the completion should be - that a student should have taken a new media class at Baruch. The new media department should also start by posting flyers around Baruch to make students aware of the different courses being offered.
